Welcome to Clairemont

Affordable family-friendly community in a convenient location

Clairemont is an established family-friendly community nestled between Interstate 5 and Interstate 805 to the north of Downtown San Diego. Clairemont’s borders encompass the neighborhoods of Bay Park and Bay Ho along Interstate 5 to the west, while the eastern portion is subdivided into the neighborhoods of North Clairemont and Clairemont Mesa East and West.

Clairemont real estate is more affordable than many San Diego neighborhoods. As one of San Diego’s first planned suburban communities, Clairemont grew during the 1950s and ‘60s. Many of Clairemont’s single-family homes were constructed during this period and have been renovated in the decades since. Housing options in the community are diverse and include duplexes, apartments, and condominiums.

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

There are several shopping centers within Clairemont and plenty of great places to eat. The Forum Coffee House at Liberty Plaza on Genesee Avenue is a trendy spot for creative coffees, teas, and breakfast eats—we recommend the avocado toast! Across the street from Liberty Plaza, Genesee Plaza has a number of big-box retailers and casual dining options that include Blaze Pizza, Panera Bread, Five Guys, Yogurtland, and more. Pho Hut & Grill serves up delicious authentic Vietnamese food on nearby Balboa Avenue.

Balboa Mesa Shopping Center is a commercial hub in Clairemont Mesa East that has recognizable brands such as Kohl’s, Mediterranean groceries at Balboa International Market, and casual drinks at The Blarney Stone Irish Pub. Follow Balboa Avenue to Clairemont Mesa West for Chef Chin, a great Chinese restaurant that provides a unique dining experience.

In North Clairemont, Clairemont Town Square is a shopping complex with a T.J. Maxx and a multiplex Reading Cinemas that offers blockbuster, indie, classic, and special family-friendly film screenings. Clairemont Town Square’s Arley’s French Bakery is a local favorite—eat in or grab some items to enjoy at home!

Things to Do

South Clairemont Recreation Center is a sports facility with a swimming pool, skate and bike park, and classes and special programs for all ages. Around 6.5 miles of trails wind through the beautiful natural scenery of Tecolote Canyon, which extends southwest through Clairemont toward the Mission Bay waterfront. Situated near the canyon is Tecolote Canyon Golf Course, the only course in San Diego designed by noted golf course architects Robert Trent Jones, Sr. and Sam Snead. San Diego Tennis & Racquet Club is another favorite spot, offering additional recreation opportunities.

Mission Bay Park
covers more than 4,200 acres, extending to the Pacific Ocean towards Clairemont’s west. The park is the largest aquatic recreation area in the United States and boasts many attractions and amenities. 19 miles of Mission Bay Park’s 27-mile shoreline is comprised of sandy beaches, while grassy parks dot the waterfront. Mission Bay Park is home to SeaWorld San Diego, a world-famous amusement park with thrilling rides, three aquariums, and marine life including dolphins and killer whales. Tecolote Shores is a large grassy park on the Mission Bay shoreline with a paved bike path and a small sandy beachfront.
