Ocean Beach is a walkable neighborhood with a laid-back Californian seaside vibe. Along with the beach, there are many parks and trails to get out and explore the area. Local restaurants include a great mix of long-established neighborhood classics and trendy modern eateries.
Dining, Entertainment & Shopping
Most of Ocean Beach’s shops, restaurants, bars, and cafes are concentrated around Newport Avenue and Point Loma Boulevard. Newport Avenue runs through the heart of the community right up to the beachfront.
Hodad’s is an iconic burger joint on Newport Avenue that claims to offer the best burgers in the world. An OB staple since 1969, Hodad’s juicy burgers are served alongside delicious shakes and baskets overflowing with onion rings.
Wailua’s Shave Ice is another longtime mainstay on Newport Avenue. Wailua’s Hawaiian-style combination of shave ice and fresh local fruit is such a treat you’ll feel like you’ve taken a trip to Hawaii while eating them!
Point Loma Boulevard runs alongside the sprawling green space of Robb Field to Ocean Beach’s northeast.

Sunset Cliffs Natural Park extends along the coastline south of Ocean Beach. The gorgeous scenery of rugged cliffs and caves provides captivating ocean views and mesmerizing sunsets.
OB Pier is the longest concrete pier on the West Coast. A popular fishing spot, its surrounding tide pools are a great place to explore and discover all kinds of ocean creatures. At the northwest end of Ocean Beach’s Pacific coastline,
Ocean Beach Dog Beach was one of the first beaches in the nation to officially allow dogs to go off-leash.
Dusty Rhodes Park at Robb Field is another must-visit for local dog owners, with a large fenced-in dog park and a children’s playground. Other amenities at
Robb Field include many sports courts and fields, a fitness center, and a skate park. This expansive green space also hosts special events during the summer, such as outdoor movie nights and family-friendly arts-and-crafts events.
OB Oktoberfest is an annual celebration on Newport Avenue that features live music, costume contests, and German food and beer. Newport Avenue also has a
Farmers’ Market on Wednesday evenings, where you can find locally grown fresh produce, arts-and-crafts vendors, and live music performances based around a different theme each week.
